About the Company

About Vutivi Innovative Industrial Solutions

Metallurgical engineering and resource recovery, from Krugersdorp, Gauteng.

VIIS is a South African metallurgical engineering company working at the point where industrial residues, by-products and waste streams still hold recoverable value. We combine characterisation, test work, modelling and plant-level engineering to establish what can be recovered from a given stream — and on what terms.

Company Overview

Practical metallurgical and industrial solutions

Vutivi Innovative Industrial Solutions (Pty) Ltd is a South African metallurgical engineering company working at the point where industrial residues, by-products and waste streams still hold recoverable value.

The company was formed around a straightforward observation: South African industry has accumulated substantial volumes of material — slags, tailings, ferroalloy residues and fine fractions — that were never economic to process under the flowsheets and metal prices of the day. Conditions change. What is needed is the engineering work to establish whether a given stream can now be recovered, and on what terms.

VIIS does that work: characterisation, flowsheet development, test work, modelling, validation and the engineering support to carry a proven route into implementation.

Our Approach

Engineering, metallurgy, recycling and circular economy

We treat recovery as an engineering problem rather than a procurement one. The technology is largely available; the difficulty lies in matching it to a specific material, at a specific scale, with a product that someone will actually buy.

That means the flowsheet is developed against three constraints at once — what the material will physically give up, what the process can be engineered to do, and what the product specification and market require. Working any one of those in isolation is how recovery projects fail.

  • Material-led: characterisation before technology selection
  • Evidence-led: test work before scale-up recommendations
  • Market-aware: product specification informs the route
Our Capability

What we do in-house

Capability spans thermal and aqueous metallurgy, the test work to confirm a route, and the modelling needed to size and balance it.

Pyrometallurgy

Smelting and high-temperature processing, furnace-related process engineering and thermal recovery routes.

Hydrometallurgy

Leaching, solution purification and aqueous recovery developed under controlled conditions.

Bench & Pilot Test Work

Structured programmes that move from indicative bench results to representative pilot validation.

Mass & Energy Balances

Balances that hold across the circuit and expose where recoveries and energy demand actually sit.

Process Modelling

Simulation and scenario comparison to size equipment and test assumptions before commitment.

Plant-Level Support

Walkdowns, process reviews, debottlenecking and implementation support on operating facilities.

Vision

A leading African provider of sustainable metallurgical processing

To be recognised across the continent for metallurgical processing, recycling and resource-recovery solutions that are technically sound and commercially durable.

Mission

Value-driven, environmentally responsible technologies

To develop and apply technologies that recover value from industrial residues, support the circular economy, and create economic opportunity in the regions where the material sits.

Guiding Principles

What the work is measured against

Resource Efficiency

Extract more value from material that has already been mined and processed once.

Waste Minimisation

Reduce residue volumes through recovery, recycling and beneficiation.

Decarbonisation

Evaluate lower-carbon metallurgical pathways where they are technically viable.

Circular Economy

Return recovered materials to productive industrial use rather than storage.

Strategic Priorities

Where the business is directed

  • Supplier and logistics partnerships to secure consistent feed material
  • Establishing recycling and recovery operations
  • Scaling technologies that have been demonstrated at pilot level
  • Export partnerships for recovered products where markets support it
  • Alliances across the industrial value chain
  • Commercialisation of validated recovery routes

Positioning

VIIS transforms industrial residues into recoverable value through engineering, validation and commercialisation. The distinguishing element is sequence: characterisation and test work establish what is achievable before any scale-up or capital case is put forward.

Discuss your material or process challenge

If you hold a residue stream, by-product, tailings resource or slag with possible recoverable value — or a process that is not performing as designed — we are interested in the technical detail.
